My Animal Paintings 2

This was based on a photo on Wetcanvas posted by michaeleric - an elephant in Africa. I used carbon pencil for the elephant and charcoal pencil for the background.

Another horse based on Rubens' work.

Another monkey. This time I used powdered graphite to smudge all over the page and then lift with an eraser. At some parts, I used 9B to darken. He's supposed to look comical under my pencil unlike the photo reference from Michael at Wetcanvas. The one below this I made it younger and more helpless looking. This is quite pitiful. I think I could draw animals better than I could draw people and I've been practicing people so much more than drawing animals.

This one was based on a photo from Michael at Wetcanvas again and it's from Africa. I used Derwent Tinted Charcoal Pencils and drew this at work last night. Quite pleased with it.

I never thought I would enjoy drawing animals so much but relatively, it is so much easier because you make the nose fatter or the eyes smaller, no one is going to scream and say that it doesn't look like Jang Dong Gun or whoever I fancy. LOL. The first one is a bit of a mess and I like my oil pastel horse from yesterday more. The second one is my absolute favorite for the day - tinted charcoal pencil cattle at the rodeo show. The third one is quite a new experiment for me. The peacock is completely done in Bombay India ink with 2 brushes and no detailing with pen and colored pencils. If I did use dark colors for detailing, it would look like the photoshopped copy behind it.

I have to draw or I'd go cranky. The first one is a mix of watersoluable pencils and whiteout pen. The second one is oil pastel. I rubbed so hard that my fingers now have blisters. But I have to get it out of my system.

Colored charcoal stick for the background and erased for highlights. The second and third ones are colored pencils. The fourth and fifth ones are in soft pastels.

This 7 inch lizard came into my house today and I took a few photos of it before I sent it out.

This month, I am supposed to do a bunch of Bill Peet look alike artwork and I have been slow in creating because I have really a lot of things on my mind and am very busy. But now, I'm settled again and my creativity comes back. I saw one tiger in his book and so I took the top half of this tiger and gave it a companion. I guess I could never get away from the "Birds do it, bees do it" scenario. Title: Lusty Tigers. I noticed he doesn't always use plain colors but like to mix colors for a more dynamic feel. So I didn't use browns today.
